Act 1
Narrative 1. Male Narrative Voice 1
On an unusual night, in an apartment up unusual stairs, a pair of strange little characters played what seemed more than just an ordinary game of cards. This night would be one of understanding and great magic.
Scene 1. Male Actors 1 & 2
The cold night air rushed through the minute cracks around the windows and rose up through the floor boards. As the evening had passed the small apartment had fallen sombre. The friendly game of cards had become exceedingly competitive.
Garmr’s beady eyes gazed down at his hand, a smirk spread widely and he sniggered to himself. His expression suddenly turned to stone as he tried not to give away his winning hand.
“I shall raise you three coppers my old friend” he threw them down upon the wooden table.
The man across from him placed down another four coins upon the table “Very well Garmr then I raise you one more... let’s have a look out our hands.”
The pair placed their hands down...
“You blasten Cheater! How is it you have won every hand this evening.”
Hel ‘s laugh boomed over the top of his little friend’s voice.” Now, now. There is no sense in calling me a cheater when lady luck is just not on your side tonight”
Garmr grumbled under his breath and picked up his flagon sloshing most of the mead on himself as he drunk. He only had a few coins left. He had to win one...
Hel dealt another hand and then picked his up. Stroking his beard he threw down 4 copper coins. “You would want to have a good hand you only have five coins left” He grinned knowing the comment was only going to make Garmr eager to win whether he had a bad hand or not, it had also provoked the thought of Hel bluffing ..
“Five coppers it is then”
They placed their cards down once more. Almost immediately Garmr’s face had gone red. He had lost again!!
“How is that possible?”
All Hell could do was laugh at his little friend. He had a mouthful from his flagon and then rested back in the comfy chair
“We can continue another night, let us just relax”
He glanced to his Garmr who hand another look on his face of greediness.
Act 2
Scene 2. Male Actors 1 & 2
A crazed laugh echoed up the chimney as the golden wisps, life forces of the dead travelled down it.”Ahahaha!”
Hel looked rather interested in Garmr’s approach, dealing the souls that he was meant to take to the underworld on his little raft.
“You are only getting away with this because it is me you know that?”
“Ahhh shut it you old fart now let us play, now there is more at stake than just some silly old coins”
Hel dealt the hand.
Looking at his cards he couldn’t decide what to do let Garmr win the next hand or proceed with a bluff or some other foolery.
“I’ll raise you 2 golden wisps!” Garmr was so excited that he couldn’t hold his mead steady. It was going to be the first hand he would win this evening.
“I shall merely raise you 4 coppers”
They both turned their cards over. Garmr showed off his 2 of hearts, 3 of hearts then following were the 4, 5 & 6 he had a flush. It was one of the highest hands and even rare was getting a royal flush when playing.
“Beat that you old fart”
Hel laid down his cards and smirked very well then. He had turned a royal flush. Garmr could not control his temper, his face turned red and he banged his fists down upon the table.
He watched as the souls he had just lost absorbed through Hel’s skin and created a glowing aura
Garmr grabbed his flagon and through it’s contence all over Hel.
Act 3
Scene 3 Male Actors 1 & 2
Beams of all different colours shot about the room. There were flares, there were sparkles, curses. A lot of the room’s contence was breaking about the two.
“It was your own choice my little friend”
“Stuff it in your jumper, I’ll teach you and lady luck a lesson”
“You’re impossible Garmr”
At the same moment they both came out from their hiding spots and fired. Hel smoothly dodged however Garmr was not so lucky. He few back from the force of the spell and were thrown into his priced collection of small wooden boats. The room twirled around and he tried to gain focus...
What had he done? Those souls how would they return to the underworld and find peace?
Hel walked over smugly and stuck out his hand, helping him to the closest chair near the fire place.
“You got to greedy, luckily I know my place and I will take the souls back to the Netherealm”
Garmr could only sigh, his ego was sorely bruised and he didn’t feel like talking.
Final Narrative
So in this room, Garmr the trusted friend of Hel had realised that, however small his role in life was , one small hiccup could affect the cycle that was life and the souls that hung in the balance would never be able to find peace.
